Für heute haben wir uns vorgenommen, in der Stadt einen Großeinkauf für unsere Kajaktour zu machen. So landen in unserer Tasche neben Spaghetti, Müsli und Tomatendosen auch eine Machete, 2 Tuben Sonnencreme und das hiesige Antimückenspray. Außerdem brauchen wir noch viele Salomondollar! Wenn wir die Hauptstadt verlassen, wird es keinen ATM mehr geben. An das Geld kommen erweist sich als ganz schön schwierig: Mal will der Automat nicht, mal gibt die Karte nicht mehr her, aber schließlich, nach vielem Schlange stehen, an gefühlt allen ATM’s der Stadt haben wir genug beisammen.
Den Abend lassen wir bei einem Spaziergang entlang des nahen Korallenstrands ausklingen, wo wir viele Einbaum-Kanus teils mit Auslegern sehen -das traditionell und nach wie vor viel genutzte Boot hier.
For today we planned a big shopping tour to buy all the essentials for our kayak trip. Besides spaghetti, cereal and tomato cans we also buy a machete, 2 lots of sunscreen and insect repellent. We also withdraw a lot of cash since outside the capital it will be hard to find ATMs. It turns out to be quite difficult to withdraw money. Either the ATM doesn’t work or the card limits the withdrawal. But after what feels like an eternity standing in queues at every single ATM we can find, we have everything we need. The evening we fill with a walk along the coral beach. At the beach we see a lot of locals in their traditional dugout canoes. Some even with outriggers. It seems like the canoe still is a famous and often used transportation here.
